I need to replace three OEM Toyota/Lexus lug nuts (M12x1.5) and was thinking I might as well get a set of locking ones. Use one per wheel (duh) and have a spare OEM one. The Gorilla Guard 63631 with the spinning outer shaft seems like as secure an option as any, but the sizes aren't a perfect match. I only saw it mentioned once here in the forum and the person said it fits their model, so maybe it doesn't have to be exact.

The 63661 is a 0.685" (17.4mm) wide and 3/4" long shaft, whereas the OEM ones are ~20mm wide and 0.5" long. Will that smaller diameter pose any problems for holding the wheel in place on that stud, or should the seat of the nut be the only thing clamping it down? I would need to take one of the nuts off to see if there's enough depth for an extra 1/4" of shaft length.

are your wheels factory? if so, they should be shank lug nut style - the lug nuts you are talking about are likely acorn seat and they will not work with your wheels...

Yeah, I've got factory GS wheels on a SC. Take a look at the link in my first post, it shows the style of the 63631 locks. They're mag style, which I guess would be the same as shank style, rather than acorn. The part I'm unsure about is if the measurements will work, being a universal fit item.

Most toyota shanks are .6" which would be shorter than they list... I have a spare set of wheels in the garage I'll check out and see what the pad thickness is...

Is wheel theft a big deal there? I hate wheel locks and they can all be defeated...

Thanks. The 0.5" shaft (shank) length I was going by is after the washer, since the locks don't have a washer and report 0.75" from there to the tip. Counting the washer would probably match your 0.6" figure.

I've never had a set of wheels stolen, and now that you mention it, I can't think of anyone I know that has. I've had the fairing stolen off of my Yakima roof rack, but that's about it. So no, it's not a terribly urgent thing to add. It just seems like a "why not?" thing to do as long as I need to replace a few lug nuts. The Guard series of Gorillas is supposed to be quite difficult to defeat because of that outer sleeve. It would have to be a very desirable set of wheels and a very determined thief. Combine that with an area with a low rate of wheel theft and there ought to be very little to worry about! Of course, if you ever lose the key for the locks...

I ended up going the simple route and replacing them with OEM lug nuts, so no wheel locks to worry about losing the key for down the road.
