I just "flipped" my tires like cool guy this wknd. Its really not much of a problem. You just have to go to a shop that has the correct equipment. I would say I had 60-70% wear on the inside and 25-30% wear on the outside. I only paid 30 bucks, and I had all four wheels balanced as well! The only bad think is, now when people look at my wheels, they think I have bad tires!! I'll just have to direct them to the inside!

DGOT20s,

What kind of tires do you have on your GS? Don't most performance tires indicate a specific direction of rotation?

Sorry everyone, I meant to reply to a thread and I started a new one! DUUUUHHHHHH! I was talking about negative camber wear, and flipping your tires from one side of the car to the other.

Of course if you have unidirectionals, you have to take the tires off the rim and "flip them" the other way in order to do this.

Sorry for the newbie messed up post!

Dave, I thought that most performance tires DO have the directional arrow. Every set I have had did have it, Pirelli P7000, Toyo Proxes FZ4, and now my Falken GRB fk451 on this car

So if you flipped the tires around, doesn't that mean they are now rotating against the directional arrows? Seems to me that could give you some problems like less than optimal traction, road noise, potential hydroplaning issues, etc.

Thats what I was saying, what I did was

1. Take all 4 wheels off the car

2. Remove tire from the wheel

3. Reinstall tire on same wheel, but in opposite direction

4. Balance rim

5. Reinstall rim-ON OPPOSITE SIDE of the car!

What this does is take the worn INSIDE portion from the left side, and put it on the OUTSIDE of the right side (and vice versa), thus putting the unworn portion on the inside! This is just a way to avoid replacing 4 tires because 25% of the tire has no tread! If you do this in addition to rotating back to front at regular intervals, you will be able to slow "the effects of aging" associated with negative camber. Funny what driving a 95 Accord with a 2.5" drop and 215-35-18 tires will teach you huh?

The only problem with "flipping" is that many low profile tires are not easily removed and remounted without damaging the sidewalls. If your shop can do it without hosing your tires then it's certainly a good way to extend tire life.

Don't they look ugly now? besides the reversed direction?

It's just the plain inside of the rim..right?

i never thought this would be so confusing! Of course I'm not riding with my rims inside out!!!! I just took my TIRE off the rim, and turned it in a different direction. because the directional arrow now faces a different direction, you have to put it on the OTHER side of the car. every thing is then back to normal, but the part of the tire with the least wear is now on the inside!! Thats all!

i understand what he's saying. that's what i do to mine. basically you're just switching the right rear tire with the left rear and vice versa. the directions are corrected when you flip them.

am i right? i have the staggered setup and makes my tires last couple thousand extra miles.

EXACTLY!!!! I dont have a staggered setup, so this helps keep those 20 inch tires fresh, a little longer! I wish a had a digi cam, so I could just take pics!
