Possible to smooth out scrape in RX300 rim?
I unfortunately came too close to a curb and scraped the outer edge of my standard RX300 rims. It put a nasty 3" long gouge into it. It's not very deep, maybe 1-2mm, but very rough and enough to make it look bad.
It looks like it should (theoretically) be possible to at least smooth the gouge and make it a bit less noticeable and get less dirt trapped in it.
Has anyone tried to smooth out such kind of scrapes? Any hints for working with the aluminium?

you need a small flat file and some fine sand papers....I have fixed a couple of stock GS 17" silver finished rims already. Just make sure that you run your file in one direction only (try not to go back and forth).
Finish off with fine grade sand paper......

Thanks for the suggestions. I was able to smooth one area down OK. Problem now is that the RX300 rims are painted a silver-gray color which of course doesn't match the bare aluminium.
Anyone know if Lexus sells paint to match the rim? Failing that any suggestions on where to get a matching paint. I was thinking maybe model airplane kit paint.....

wil..you can certainly try that first..not sure to what extent/degree that you are looking to repair/refinish the rim. you can also take it to a wheel repair shop and have them re-finished for ~$50/wheel
