Default Tire width on slightly larger (d) rims... IS250 AWD

I'm currently running 18x8 45mm OEM SC430 rims on my IS250 AWD with 225/40/18 Potenza RE960AS tires (stock is 225/45/17). These tires have looked a little stretched on on these rims ever since I've owned them, definitely moreso than when I had the stock 17s.

I know that sometimes widths of a tire might differ even though they are sold the same (depending on manufacturer, no?). Maybe the sidewall curvature plays with that perception, I'm not sure.

Well, it's time for new tires and was wondering if I should be looking at 235/40/18 or if anyone can recommend any all-season 225s that wont look as stretched. So far I've been looking at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, Michelin Primacy MXM4 (yeah, different handling), Ventus S1 Noble 2, or really any other all season tire that can handle rain and the occasional snow. I was looking at the RE970 but it worries me that if I did that in 225, it would look narrow again.
