Will lower profile tires on stock 18x8.5 wheels cause any issues?
09 2IS owner here, I'm currently tire shopping. Since I'm not too fond of the mismatched OEM tires look (225/40/18F with 255/40/18R) too bloated in the rear. I'm thinking about doing the BMW/Benz tires fitment. Keeping 225/40/18 front but lowering profile to 255/35/18 in the rear. Will this set up cause any issues? I would like a more flat sidewall if possible. Thanks.

It will cause issues. All of your factory wheel speed sensors and the ABS / Traction computer are calibrated with a difference in tire diameter front to rear...
Also, the shorter tire will look silly as the wheel well gap will increase, so although to you the tire may look better, the fender gap will not...

I do not understand the problem, as going from a 40 to 35 profile will make no difference to the "bloated" width as your keeping the 255, and the tyre wall depth decrease will be minimal (12mm decrease which is about 10% of the sidewall height) if at all noticable.
If you really do not like the "bloated" wide rear tyres fit the same as the fronts, but be aware that handling will be severly compromised and insurance will most likely be void also.
