Default Question on +39 offset for the 2nd gen GS

I has a question( for a friend) about the offset of the rims. The car is 99 GS.
O.K, a set of staggered set up with 19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 rear with +39 offset all the way around. What size of the tires you recommend for this set up? I think 245/30/19 for the front and 275/30/19 for the rear.
What's happen if he want 275/40 or 35 on the rear? You guys think this set up will rub the fender well when he goes over bump.
Thanks in advance.

245/35/19 and 275/30/19 would be the correct choice. You can run the 245/40/19 F and the 275/35/19 R, it will work fine. As far as your offsets are concerned, they are right on target.

Will putting in L-tuned shocks on the 245/40f and 275/35r decrease the amount of bounce in the car when it goes over bumps and imperfections in the road surface?

Also, what about putting 255/40 on the rear?

If you increase the tire's rolling diameter AND lower the car, you are asking for clearance issues. Why the switch to 245/40-19 or 255/40-19? If you're that concerned about ride quality, just go 18"

I've driven my brother's GS3 with 19" HREs & Eibach springs, the car rides great. What is the big scare with actually doing a PROPER tire set-up. Sorry, you internety guys have some wierd ideas...

Default QUESTION!

Wheel experts...or anyone that may know the answer. Why the different tire size recomended for the rear in the tire height.(40f/35r) I am going to do the same setup for my car. I want to do 19X8.5 front and 19X9.5 rear. I did not know what offset or tires to buy. I see that you said that +39 is ideal. Why not +40 or +38. I also wanted to know the reason for the 245/40f...275/35r. I know that the first number is becasue the rim is wider but why not 40 all the way around or 35 all the way around. Can anyone explain the reason?

THANKS!!!

+40 or +38 is ok too..

35/30 tyres to keep the overall diameter a close to stock as possible..(~25.7")...you wnat to stay withing +/- 3%

vvt-i..on the 40/35/19 set up, it also depends on how low the car is dropped

Unhappy !?!?!?!??!

GS4will.....SO if I did a set up with 245/35/18 and 275/35/18 this would put my GS out of the +/-3% ratio and take the rear wheels out of stock (~25.7")? Will this set up also raise the back up of the car or is this just for wheel ratio. Thanks for the reply!!

the rear will not be raised..BUT, you need 245/40/18 for the front, and 275/35/18 for the back...i had this set up before, 18x9+10, no problem at all

Default Still unclear!

GS4will

I guess I am not understanding why this is nessesary. I do not want to buy tires without less than a 40 sidewall height becuse I wanted a little more tire to prevent the dreaded bent rim. I have bought rims before (17") and had 235/45/17 all the way around. I noticed since upgrading to luxury cars and visiting these sites that everyone have different tire sizes. I also did not mean 18" I want to get 19's. So I guess that 245/40/19 and 275/40/19 with the +39 offset with 8.5f and 9.5r will make the rear have that raised look or will it just make the car not be in the +/-3% ratio and take the rear wheels out of stock (~25.7") that you stated to me?

Thanks for the help!!

the answer is YES to both of your question...the front might/might not rub, the rear will def rub due to the "tallness" of the tyre/wheel combo....in the future, your suspension componenets will alos be damaged as i have seen such happened

VI Rep - the 'second number' is a percent value - you take the WIDTH of the tire (e.g., 275, multiply it by the percent value, e.g. 35%, and you end up with the SIDE WALL HEIGHT. So because the fronts are narrower (not as wide) as the rear tires, you have to lower the percentage (profile) number to make the sidewall heights similar front and rear. Hope that helps.

surprised no one said this before.

at least we didn't see any wrong statements...someone posted a few days ago saying that the second number was height in millimeters!
