Are 6 year old "new" tires safe?

Are 6 year old "new" tires safe?
I'm about to bite the bullet on a pair of 225/35/19 Continentals that I found for cheap. They're 6 years old but in new condition. Doesn't have the new tire smell and doesn't have the new tire moisture. It doesn't look like 10 year old brittle junk yard tires neither though.
I'm planning to do a slight stretch on a 9.5" wheel. Do you think this is okay/safe?

Unless they are free and you plan on running them for a very short period of time, they aren't worth it...
For the exact reasons - they are already in the stages of dry rot, it just might not be visible very much, as they have hopefully been stored inside in a reasonable area...
if they are 6 years old, they are not in new condition... Anything over 6 years old is questionable, period...

I'm not quite sure what the point of the post was if you were going to do it anyways...
TireRack has a closeout on the Conti DW right now in that size for 109 a tire - that is super cheap, as most places, a cheapie is around $130ish...
Just spend the money - it is worth it...

I agree, unless you're getting these for free or almost free I wouldn't risk it. You don't know how or where these were stored. If someone had these behind their garage in the sun for 6 years, these are shot.
