Looking for tires for the IS in 225/45/17. Don't need winter traction. Any recommendation for something with good handling, decent tread, that won't break the bank?

The RE760 and Indy 500 score the best (in your size and of the Ultra High Performance category) on TireRacks reviews. The Conti is the only "wont break the bank" tire in the Max Performance category that rates really high. The S. Drive and KDW are great tires too and they are ranked as the next two available in your size. I've had personal experience with all but the Continental and they are all great tires... They range from $118 (Firestone) to $139 (BFGoodrich) per tire from TR...

I like the Bridgestone RE760 and Continental Extreme Contact DW. The RE760 is going to be the quieter, smoother ride performance will still be at a level higher than the average driver would need. If you drive on the very spirited side Continental DW may be better for you. I have the same car and if it were me I would do the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, it's provides the best mix of ride comfort and performance and comes at a very good price.

I'd like to add to this thread, being in Montreal also and looking for tires on an IS250AWD. I do have dedicated Blizzak LM-60 winter tires, however I usually switch to summer tires early and return to winter tires late in the fall so the tires see temps in the 30F-50F range. A recent chat with Tirerack recommended all-seasons for my application, mainly due to low-temp use.

I am looking for good dry & wet traction but not ultimate performance, I still want a quiet & reasonably comfortable tire, in the lower price bracket. My choices so far:

Summer:
Kumho Ecsta LE Sport
Bridgestone RE760 Sport
Continental DW

All-seasons:
Kumho Ecsta 4X
Continental DWS

I am leaning to the Kumho 4X for its good reviews and lowest price of all, or the Kumho LE for the summer alternative. I'd rather not spend the extra $100 or so for the other models, unless they are significantly better.

Any input will be appreciated ! Thanks in advance.

My rear 2 tires cracked from inside.. Not sure how, perhaps the weather and wear and tare..

Currently all 4 tires are Dunlpe SP Sports 5000 225 45 R17 91V.

Should I buy a set of 4 and change them all of can Ijust buy 2 tires?

If only 2 tires, should I stick to same brand/ same kind or I can go with any other brand as long as its same size? If different brand, what would you recommend?

If your car is AWD, all 4 tires must match and for all intents and purposes, be identical. Even more than a few 32's of an inch variance may cause eventual drivetrain issues... If you want to chance that, go ahead, but I would replace all 4.

If the other two are like new (8/32's tread left or better), then you could get away with two identical tires...

I will be changing all 4 tires.. Here are the 2 recommended by my mechanic.. Can you please suggest which one is better deal?

225/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 $770/set

Between those two tires I would compare it to walking into a Ford dealership and looking at a Mustang and a Towncar. The Michelin would be the sporty Mustang and the Continental would be the soft riding Towncar. If you want the ride do the Continental if you're more about performance handling and grip do the Michelin.
