Default More tire size questions for 18x9 wheels

I was originally thinking to put 245/40R18s tires on all 4 (front and rear) 18x9 wheels but my friend was telling me that if you go too wide on the front, you might have to deal with oversteer and that a staggered approach might be better. 3 Questions. First, can I put 225's or 235's on a 9 nich wide wheel? If I can, do you think this is a good idea? If you think it's a good idea, what size tire should I put in front if I have 245/40R18s on the rear? Thanks.

245 is already narrow for a 9" wheel. I would NOT go any smaller.

245/255 may be your best bet.

I know somebody on here put 235/50R18 tires on these same wheels that I got (but on a LS instead of a GS). I'm leaning towards 245/40R18 for a few reasons. First, the manufacturer's specs indicate not to put a tire larger than 245/45R18 on the wheel. Second, I can't do 235/50R18 on my GS, the diameter will be too big and too much of a deviation from stock. Third, if I went with 235's, I'd want to put 235/45R18, not 235/40R18 on the front and that's not available in the 2 tires I'm considering the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and the Sumitomo HTR+.

hehe, that's me, I shouldn't get this size cuz I couldn't lower my car now.. the spring is still in my garage for 2 months already.

just make sure when u put 235/45/18 u can still lower ur car.
I don't recommed put 245 in the front for thoses 18x9 rimz.. cuz
GS4will and I both saw my front tires almost touch inside.(i guess it's the bolt of the upper control arm) The space is very very little, I guess it's the offset 45+ . hope it will help.

tks

Kajukenbo,

Do you know if wheel widths are accurate across manufacturers? I have the L-Tuned wheels which are 8f and 9.5r. I'd like to run the exact same setup as you, i.e. 245f and 275r. The L-Tuned wheels came with 235f and 265r. When I sent them email, I got the "safe" answer of 235/265 are the recommended size by their engineers and would not recommend going larger.

From all I've read, I think 275s on the rear 9.5 would be OK. It is the 245s on the 8 fronts. Most people run 245 on 8.5 fronts. I was happy to see you running 245s on 8 fronts. Any issues?

Sam,
You're on the right track with the 245/40-18. Technically, this is the 'correct' size for the GS, and actually fits a 9" wheel very well.

Neo,

I have no problem with 245/40/18 in front. I got that set up from tirerack.com. You can also check out their site and find a stagger setup wheel for the GS model. Once you located a wheel, you will see the recommanded tire size based on their software on your left hand side of the screen.
