Over in Europe, Lexus offers a 17" option.

Here's the wheels....

Daddy-O i got faith in you bro, can you find out why they dont fit? according to the spacing and bolt pattern they should. i found a guy who has a set of brand new 17in IS300 rims i can get for cheap, i am wondering if i can maybe get them machined to fit? i am guessing they are not supposed to fit because of the center whole, maybe they are different because RX has the AWD option? but i dont know? i may just buy them anyway and try? but i wish i had a reference first, any help would be appreciated, plus i think it would be pretty kool if i did have to have them machined, then i would have the only one....HeHe

Daddy-o the info i looked at before was wrong, it seems the offset on the RX rims are +35mm and the offset on the IS rims are +45mm, does this mean the IS rims could fit with spacers are does this mena the IS rims will stick out alot? the +/- thing throws me off?

These links should help you better understand wheel sizes and offset.

it look like to me i will work but the rim will sit 10mm further out. thats quite alot. im not sure about that. i may see if i can swap one out with a friend to see how it fits. does the front or back need more room? if i just try 1 wheel will i be able to tell or do i need to try 1 front and 1 back?

Try it on the back. There are clearance issues with the strut.

I have the same questions too coz the IS 17 is not as radical as the GS in terms of width. Anyhow, I tried the GS 17" and it did fit in the fronts. Fit means being able to snugly put on the rims with the stock GS tires and tighten the nuts.

Where the problem might occur is if the taller tires that you would need would clear the suspension. As it is, the GS 17 has 0.5 inch spacing from the strut. But the strut angles up in such a way that if you put in a taller tire than the stock GS tire (235/45-17) which you need to do to keep the rolling diameter equal to RX stock (225/70-16), the tires might hit the strut.

But it sure looked nice!!!

Looking at the website, toy4two.home.mindspring.com, it would appear that the IS300 wheels would produce the following:
If the current Rx300 wheel is 6.5 inches wide and has a 35mm offset, and the IS300 wheel is 7 inches wide and has a 50mm offset, the strut to inside of wheel dimensions would be 21mm less. The outside edge of the wheel would retract toward the body by 9mm. Without spacers/adapters, the 21mm reduction would no doubt interfere with the rear strut.

If 20mm spacers/adapters were used, with exact bore diameters as the current lugs, to prevent wheel imbalance, the result would be:
Strut to inside of wheel dimension would be only 1mm less than the current Rx300 wheel, and the outside edge of wheel would extend by 11mm more than current. If one measures the fender to wheel distance currently, 11mm would not push the wheel so far outbound as to cause the tires to throw mud, etc along the body.

The unanswered questions yet are however:
Is the center hub diameter of the IS300 wheel the same as the Rx300 wheel?
What tire size would be best suited for the Rx300 with the IS300 17x7" wheels?

If the hub is too small the wheel obiously won't fit.
If the tire height or diameter is too large, it may be the factor that intereferes with the strut on the inside, or sticks too far outside the fender body.

Doesn't anyone have access to a set of IS300 wheels, with 20mm spacers/adapters, and put on a set of say 255/60/17 Michellin Cross Terrain to let us all know if it would work? 255/60/17's are very close in diameter to the 235/70/16's that everyone is using. Both are 29.1 inches diameter and are 711/712 revs per mile respectively.

There are a lot of us who would like to consider this option and perhaps the clublexus members can all focus on this possibility?

Thanks!

i have the wheels, i bought them already from a guy i am just waiting to go pick them up he is out of town till monday, so once i get them i can experiment, i am getting them so cheap it doesnt matter what happens. isnt a 20mm spacer a little big? is that safe? where can i get some or do i have to make them?

also i think with the stock IS300 tires the wheels will fit so at least i can get a pick for all the peeps who wanna see the wheels on the RX even though the tires wont look right yet
