If one is looking for a more comfortable ride and willing to forgo performance, would a grand touring tire really make that much a difference than all season performance tires? These are for 18's.

It would still be an all-season tire but the Grand Touring would focus more on quiet and smooth rather than quick steering response and cornering ability. Some of the best Grand Touring tires we have would be the Goodyear Assurance Comfortred Touring, Michelin Primacy MXV4, and the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity. The difference in the ride and noise comfort is really quite different between the 2 types of tires.

I can't afford buying all 4 at once. Maybe I'll phase them in two at a time, but I'm really hoping for a ride that takes bumps better, noise is secondary, with decent rain handling (I have a separate set for snow), performance is dead last.

My other option is to sell my 18's and get a set of 17's for a higher sidewall but I'm having a hard time justifying it at the risk that it still would not improve that greatly.

Get the Serenity's! IMO, its the best buy... I think it is worlds ahead of the Goodyear, and priced much less than the Michelin...

The Goodyear is still a good tire and definitely at a good price usually...
