Default Tire Fitment Question for 2GS

Hi All,

I currently have the following tire setup on my 2GS: 245/40/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rears. To achieve better ride comfort and protection for the wheels, I am thinking about going with 245/45/18 fronts and 275/40/18 rears. I know that my speedometer will be off a little because of the larger diameter, but will there be any rubbing issues? Any other downside to going with this combination? BTW, my car is not lowered.

Thanks,
Mike

They will fit if the fenders are rolled and the wheels are a good offset, nothing aggressive... we put 295/40-18's on my brothers with 245/45's up front... He does have Tein suspension, not sure if that makes more room underneath or not, as it was on the car when we bought it...

Rubbing will depend on the tires, wheel offsets, and drop. You will be running about 1" taller than OEM. Many of the guys running 20s (including me) are running +1" so it is not unheard of. Again, depending on your setup, you MAY have rubbing on the fender lip, on the wheel well liners when hitting large dips, and on the liners when reversing with the wheels turned.

I have OEM 98 GS400, but am running 245/40/18s as well. I've gone through a full set of wheels due to the bloody potholes around here and was thinking of downsizing to 17's.

However, is it worth going to 245/45/18s or is there an even higher sidewall I can use?
