Default Staggered Tire Sizes

I'm about to put new wheels on my SC430. 8.5x20+25 in front and 9.5x20+25 rear.

Another member had recommended 235/35/20 & 275/30/20 tire sizes. He said that mathematically that's a better match than if I ran 245/35/20 in the front.

Unfortunately, the tires I want (Continental DWS) only come in 245/35/20 in the front. All season tires would be a big plus since I get a little bit of snow here and this is my only car.

Will it cause any issues to run 245/35/20 in the front with 275/30/20 in the rear?

275/30-20 nominal diameter = 26.5"
245/35-20 nominal diameter = 26.8"
235/35-20 nominal diameter = 26.5"

so, while that recommendation was correct, you will probably not be able to notice the .15" per sidewall in height difference...

The tire sizes you have chosen are close enough in height to be a good staggered fitment. However, my concern is the vehicle came with a 25.7" tall tire in a 245mm width from the factory, now you're going to 26.8" (front) / 26.6" (rear) tall and will also be making the tire wider in the rear. It would be very close and large bumps or turning full lock-to-lock may cause some rubbing issues. So, there is a very good possibility for needing a fender lip roll or reshaping the inner fender liners.

Thanks for the replies. I am worried about rubbing in the front. I had a set of wheels before in the same sizes with more conservative offsets (8.5x20+35 / 9.5x20+35). I had 235/35/20 in the front originally with no rubbing.

When I replaced my tires, I ordered the same size and had some rubbing on the front liners going over bumps, which I was fine with since it didn't get into the fender. I assumed it was rubbing because the new tires had more tread. Then later I realized they put the wrong size on (245/35/20). The more I think about it, I'm worried with the more aggressive offset it will get into the fender.

If that's the case, I may just go with the summer tires and get a set of winter tires to put on my stock wheels for winter. But we only get about 5 days of snow here, so that's a little excessive.

Also, here's a shot I took with my old wheels (8.5x20+35) with 235/35/20.

I would agree it seems like a bit of a waste to have winter tires for that little time. I would play around with sizes you would like to run and see if you can find an all-season that will work or just park the car for those 5 days a year. I know there is a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ you could run 245/30R20 front and 255/30R20 rear and use your existing wheels?

I was looking at the Continental DWS. The rears should be fine with 275. It's the fronts that I'm worried about rubbing the fender.

It doesn't look like anyone makes a good all season tire in 235. Hankook makes one, but it got very poor reviews for snow and ice, so it's probably not any better than a summer tire.
