Default Reverse Mount Face of Rim?

Just picked up some 3 piece work wheels, +42 offset in front and +44 in rear. Someone said that I would be able to reverse mount the faces of the rims to get a lower offset? I was not too clear on what they meant.

The face is bolted to the barrel on a 3 piece wheel. I'm guessing they meant that you could unbolt the face and rebolt it on behind the mount, but I don't see how that's possible. You could get new barrels with more aggressive offsets, but that's expensive. Or you could just use spacers. Here's how a 3 piece wheel is put together, btw...

YES. reversing will lower your offset.

inner lip becomes the outer lip.

That makes sense if the inner barrel is polished. Or if you have it refinished. Most I remember seeing have been raw metal.

yah, and most wheels doing that would end up with a hugely negative offset... if an 11" wide wheel has an offset of +35, and you do this, our new offset should be -35... thats almost 3" difference, so, for the above mentioned wheels, your +44 offset would become -44 offset, or a difference of almost 4"

something tells me you don't have room under the car for a -44 offset wheel, of any width...
