Default 225 width on rims made for 215?

I have a set of 17"inch rims from another car. They have 215-45-17 tires on them.

I currently have a 2000 GS300 with the stock 225-50-16 rims/tires on it.

Are there any ramifications if I put those 17"inch rims on my GS300?
What would happen if I wanted to put 225 tires on those 17"inch rims made for 215 width?

I want to either keep the same handling/stability characteristics or improve them. But I don't want it to be less for safety reasons.

I'm not sure if the 10mm difference would make that much.
I'm not sure if those 17"inch rims would look funny on the bigger car. Since its meant for 215 I assume they aren't as wide. But then again I'm talking about a 10mm difference so I'm not sure if it would make any difference at all really.

Tire Rack shows what tire widths are compatible tire for a range of rim widths. Select the tire, then go to the specs page and see the range.
