Lets get this straight - Treads versus Threads
Alright, well, I have a little pet peeve, and I am usually able to completely ignore it... Up until recently, it was somewhat far between, but lately, it seems that more and more people are making this mistake when talking about tires. I'd like to make sure everyone here is aware of the proper usage of words when talking about tires... it's quite simple, but I used to hear it all the time...
"Will you come look at my tires, my threads look low"
or
"The thread is about worn out, I might need some new tires"
or
"Is there enough thread left"
or
"But this one has a higher thread wear"
Alright, so, the proper usage is TREAD... not THREAD... Thread is what we use to sew things together, repair tears, put boy scout patches on, etc... tires have TREAD see the difference?
THREAD = twisted filaments or fibers of any kind used for sewing (or even the slang definition means clothes) Proper usage: Mary used blue thread to sew the hole in my jeans back together. Billy is on his way to the store to buy some new threads for the club tonight.
TREAD = the part of a wheel, tire, or runner that bears on the road, rail Proper usage: BfGoodrich produces a tire in which the tread looks like flames. Sue stopped by the tire store so that they could inspect the tread of her tires.
In this subforum, I imagine that there will rarely ever be a time that the word thread is used. When I search just this subforum, I get over 1000 hits, out of which I picked 5. All 5 I pick have the word thread used in place of tread.
I know this is nitpicky, but it will make you sound smarter, I promise...

Well said. I have bit my tongue on this one several times too. Its easy to see how people that are more familiar with internet forums then the tires on their cars could make this mistake.
