What determines the rim width a tire can fit?
I have a set of 225/45/17 tires, how do I know how wide of a rim they will be able to fit (ie 7.0, 7.5, 8.0)? Also what does "J" and "JJ" refer to?
The reason I am asking is I would like to know whether GS rims which are 17x7.5J and have an offset of 45 will fit my IS250 AWD.
Thanks

The J or JJ is the shape of the contour of the wheel... pretty much all wheels are the same/similar, and it really doesn't matter... the way to tell if they will fit your wheels is to go to the tire manufacturers website and find out... For instance, a Bridgestone RE-070 in that same size fits a 7 to 8.5" width wheel... most other manufacturers will be close to that... the GS wheels should fit fine, but I'm sure someone here has tried already...
