GS offset on IS for new wheels
Hi all and I have a quick question. Tire rack has wheels that are meant for a gs that I would like to fit on my IS. I know that tirerack is very conservative on the size and offset that they will sell to you because of possible rubbing or body modifications that will be needed. However, will am 18 x 8.5 rim with a 40 offset fit in the front of an IS? I feel it should since it is only 5 mm difference from what is recommended. I know fender rolling may be needed or the tire may rub on the inner plastic in the wheel well when the wheels are fully turned but that is not a concern. Please provide me with the absolute truth of what will fit and if the GS fitment will fit on an IS.. I will not take tireracks advise.
Here's a perfect eample, I had a set of Club Linea Sports Stela's that I had purchased for my 300ZX TT, 18 x8.5 42mm / 18 x 9.5 38mm. Well I had them redrilled and mounted on my next car, a 95 BMW M3. Some serious fender rolling in the rear but my car looked like a steam roller from the back.
Thanks in advance

18x8.5 up front might be a little too wide with that offset. I've seen IS's do 19" (yes, 19", not 18") x 8" +40 with a 225/35-19...235/35-19 can work also but you'll have some fender rubbing (inner fender lining).
So an 18x8.5" with a +40 will fit but if your car is lowered or you hit a decent bump or dip, you might rub the sidewall of the tire and possibly the lip of the fender. I'm not sure what the arc value is on the IS so I can't say for SURE...but I know for sure that you'll have to run an undersized tire (245 is the optimal size for a 8.5" wide wheel)...you'd have to run a 235 or 225 which will look kinda stretched on that width...why not just get a similiar style wheel that made to fit your IS?
