Ok guys I'll start off by saying I have a 2001 GS430 with stock 16" rims and I live in Miami, FL, Tire size is 225/55/16 or 225/50/16 not sure ...

Ok so now the dilemma, my tires are almost bald and I want some high performance tires. I've narrowed down my choices to two tires:

1) Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
or
2) Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position


Now on my old ES I had the RE960's on and they were great, but obviously it does not snow here in FLA so the A/S part is not an Issue ... I just want to know which of these two tires will have the better performance (especially in rain), and the best tread wear, It is sunny 75% of the time, and the temp almost NEVER goes under 60 degrees ... Any suggestions?

Both are excellent tires... The RE050 will really surprise you in the wet for it being a summer performance tire.

I say RE050 all the way. The 960, as you said, is an excellent tire as well, but, due to the fact it will never ever snow there, you are better off going with the 050's...

Yea this is what I was thinking, but then again I also heard that the 960's had considerably better wet traction with almost No hydroplaning ... I have experience in hard braking from 60 - 0 with my old ES and the RE960's and there was ZERO hydroplane, I was impressed and totally underestimated those tires, So I'm hoping that the 050's have similar or better performance considering the higher price tag, If they have better performance then I will go for the 050 100% but if both tires are pretty similar then I'd rather save the extra $100 and go with the RE960 ... Anyone have experience with both? Maybe our friends at Tire Rack might be able to gimme some info? lol

-Any suggestions appreciated, I'll be purchasing my tires within the next 2 - 4 weeks ...

I have experience with both... different cars, but, both, nonetheless... essentially, the 960 is one of the best all season performance tires you can buy... the 050 is markedly better in the dry, very good in the wet, and crap in snow...

So I'm guessing the final review is, RE050 superior in dry, and RE960 superior in wet? I'm thinking about going 050 ...

you got it... the 050 is surprising in the wet though... I have no problems driving them at full speed in the wet (within reason obviously)
