Default Wheel width

Hey guys. I just got a flat today so I'm thinking of upgrading my rims with new tires. I'm kinda partial to the the axis muse right now. In 19", they only come 8 inches wide with a 45 offset. Do you think they are too narrow? Is the offset OK for my car? I have a '93 GS300. I'm also considering the Mille Miglia Evo 5 in 19x8.5 or the Moda R6 19x9. OK to summarize

1. Which rim? Axis Muse 19x8, Mille Miglia Evo 5 19x8.5, or Moda R6 19x9

2. What's the minimum width I should consider? Is 8 inches too narrow?

3. Is 45 offset OK for the axis muse? What about if I get the supra TT brake upgrade?

4. If I get the Moda R6, should I go 19x8 front 19x9 rear or 19x9 all around?

5. If I do the Supra TT Brake Upgrade, Is that gonna change my offset?

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna need to decide in the next few days so I'd greatly appreciate your help soon.

minh,

1. i would choose moda R6 as i have seen many of the modas, the finish is good and the prices are not bad.

2. 8" would be fine, though 8.5" is more ideal..

3. 19x8+9, or 19x9 f+r are both ok, your call. i would so 19x9 f+r for my GS, 245/35/19+275/30/19

4. for supra tt fittment, ask the tyre rack guys, tell them you have the supra tt break, and ask for the right offset. sometimes disk type matters as well as offset numbers. ie, a low disk japanese rim with +37 offset would not fit the tt breaks...buy, a high disk +40 will. kind of confusing , eh

5. i think moda r6 has +37 offset, you might want to get this for the front..

Thanks for the info gs4will. On #4, what is a low/high disk? How can you tell which it is? So the TT brake upgrade does change the offset? Thanks again?

sure thing....my first lex was also the 1st gen GS...back then, very limited mods are available here in the US.

sorry i really do not know how to explain this high/low disk theory without you and i sid by side with a rim between us tt break upgrade dose require high disk, and only certain range of offset will provide room for the caliper clearanc. on japanese rims, it would usually say so on the inside rim...

i think italian rims have more limited size/disk choice. the best advice would be to tell the reputable shop like the tyrerack your car model, AND you have tt breaks/ or big caliper and try to ask them for high disk application.

hope this helps

Minh, on a "High Disk" setup, the disk (or face/center of the wheel) usually sits out closer to the outside edge. This sometimes can eat up lip (if you have a wheel with lips) but it's necessary to clear large brake calipers. However, many low end companies (like Zenetti) don't offer such things. Also, the design of the wheel has a lot to do with clearance. I'm going guess that the Modas and Axis won't have a high disk setup...the Millie's might...you might to check out some JDM wheels....

Offset is the measurement of the distance of the "pad" of the wheel (where it actually mates up with the car) from the "centerline" of the wheel. The higher the "+" number is, the CLOSER it sits to the center of the car...so a "+45" would sit closer to the car than a "+35" by 10MM (if all other things are the same like the width of the wheel, the disk, etc., etc...)

Thanks manaray. Where can I check out JDM wheels? On a side note, is the process to convert the first gen GS300 to supra TT brakes the same as the sc300/400? Can the rears be converted as well? Thanks again.

Minh, I'm not 100% sure on the Supra brakes for the REAR...but the fronts should be the same setup as the SC...as for JDM wheels, well here's a list of some sites...

http://www.work-wheels.co.jp/
http://www.river-side.co.jp/products.htm
http://www.weds.co.jp/products/wheel/wd/wd_list.htm
http://www.auto-couture.com/catalog/wheels/

Also, don't discount American made wheels like...

http://www.hrewheels.com/Car/540Series/index.htm
http://www.fikse.com/photos.html
http://www.kinesismotorsport.com/forged.htm

I run HRE's on my car because of the quality and the customization factor. Plus, since they're a local company (at least for me), if I have any problems, I can get it fixed...
