Mounting Painted Wheels or Those with Painted Lips
I'm seeing a lot of wheels that are painted, particularly with the painted lips and I really like them in certain applications. My question is: when you get these mounted do the lips scratch easily? I have had to go thru a lot of tires with my 20s and sometime the tire guy has a devil of a time mounting the tire and uses a big metal rod to help him. It seems to me that painted lip wheels could be easily scratched by these sometimes not-detailed oriented or careless tire guys. A scratched lip wheel then can peel and permanently damage the wheel.
Please provide your thoughts and experiences.
I have some pics of wheels that have painted lips to show you what I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Ted

when they (a good shop with a good tech) mount tires on any of our aftermarket wheels, they actually put the wheel face DOWN on the mounting machine. AND they sometimes put masking tape along the edge for extra protection
when they use those big metal bars to push the tire on to the wheel, that's actually the back of the wheels.
if you see a shop mounting tires on wheels like ours face up, take the wheel and run
