Default Tire answer needed asap

I have stock IS300 rims they are 17inches wide.

Can I run Bridgestone Turanza 235/45/17 's on them?
Some tire shops say, ya no problem, others are like no way ... its way to big.

The bridgestone website states that the minimum tire width should be be 7.5 with a range of 7.5-9inch.

Whats the deal, can I do it?

225/45 17 is the largest I recommend.
