Default will 20's clear brakes?

trying to put 20' rims on my '94 ls400. I was told by the sales guy over the phone ls4's have brake clearance issues. so i came on CL and did some research. some have had problems with wheels clearing their ls4's and some say 1st gen ls does not have bbk. I just need help getting this issue cleared up. Do 1st gen ls400, like my '94, have the big brake calipers? And the rims I'm trying to put on are 20'x8.5' +38mm offset with 245/35/20 tires.

Actually size and offsets doesn't determine if it will fit BBK or not. You would want to find out the "disk type" of the wheels you are trying to get. Hi-disk are for BBK and lo-disk are for standard brakes. Some manufacturers call it a different name, but they mean the same thing. I would try to get intouch with the manufacturer of the wheels and find out if if it fit big brakes.

good info and options but not necessary in this case

1st gen LS400 (89-94) has tiny (i guess regular sized ) brakes, so wheel clearance is NOT an issue.

2nd gen+ LS400 have MASSIVE brakes that make finding wheels somewhat of a challenge (2nd gen=95-00)

*Personally i feel that 20" is too much for the 1st gen LS, and would not go larger than 19, but its personal choice, might look good if lowered a LOT but i still feel that the car isnt the right size in the front and back for 20s.
