Default Importance and Reality of Weight Question

Okay, let's take our beloved G4/430. Does anybody have a guess or empirical data on, for example, what the performance difference would be between a thirty pound wheel all around versus a Volk 17 pounder? Let's use 18/8.5's all the way around.
I'm wondering if the acceleration figures would vary much.

That's probably because no one has "hard" numbers...GS4Power could have probably given you mathmatically numbers but he hasn't been around...

For me, I didn't do any testing before I got my wheels...and I haven't had time to really do some in-depth testing with my current setup (which isn't really fair anyways because I have all sorts of other cráp on my car now my brakes which will obviously affect the outcome)

How about the people that have bought heavy wheels...anyone care to talk about how much acceleration they lost and how much braking distance they've gained?

Cool

Hi guys, hi manaray... I am still around, but don't visit very often (too much work at school!!)

As for the question on wheel weight, I posted something a while back..........here's the link

You can use the same factor for acceleration times.

Just some info I found concerning wheel and tire weight increases/decreases. Perhaps if we were given specific weights in this test it would help even more.

Motor Trend Stats on BMW 540i Stock +1 +2
Tire 225-60/15 225-55/16 235-45/17
Wheel (in) 15x7 16x7.5 17x8
0-60mph (sec) 6.9 6.9 7.0
1/4 mile (sec/mph) 15.3/96.5 15.3/96.1 15.4/95.8
Rolling Diameter (mm) 651 654 643

1lb of rotational mass saved = 6lbs of dead weight saved(or added)
100lbs of dead weight = 10 hp(approx)so if u add 100lbs to your car and you add 10hp(intake exhasut etc..) you car will be about as fast as b4 u added the weight.
10hp = .1 sec in the 1/4

of course this all depends on how much hp your car is making. this applys to stock cars mostly or slower cars. it doesnt apply to hi hp cars like 4-500hp supras etc....it does but numbers will differ alot.
