I need new tires for my 01 gs 430, i have avon tyres tech m550 size 245/45/17 and they are totally worn..i wanted to know should i rebuy these tires or is there better tires out there to get that are at a reasonable price. Also for tires this size what do you guys think is a reasonable price?

I bought some General Exlaim UHP tires almost a year ago and they have been fantastic. Great grip on dry and wet pavement. The tires are relatively quiet and have give you confidence in taking corners a little harder than normal. Out of all the tires i went over, the General's were the best in cost and most importantly, performance.

I've heard a lot of good things about the General UHP tire. I would have bought em but they didn't make the size I needed in 18's. A buddy of mine who has an E46 M3 said they are great. I have recently bought Bridgestone RE960 and am happy with them. But so far the best tire that I have tried would have the be the Michellin Pilot sports PS2. They are pricey but they are excellent and are also light weight for the tire size compared to others. (I am talking nearly 7 lbs lighter per tire on the 245/35/20)

the Exclaim UHP's are great until you try them back to back with a real performance tire... I found 25% faster cornering speeds with BFG KDW's...

the Exclaim UHP's are cheap, but they also handle like a cheap tire...For the people that have just upgraded wheel size and haven't tried anything different to compare them to, the Exclaims are great, but when you get to try them against a high end tire, they suck bad...

There are plenty of good tires other than the BFG obviously... I just hate to see people limit themselves to something like the Avon and General... only about 1 sq ft of tire contacts the road at any time, a tire is the BIGGEST handling upgrade you can make on a car, as well as the single biggest safety upgrade (or compromise) you can make as well...
