16" vs 17" wheel ride quality
I'm a newb, and know that on other cars, going to larger diameter wheels using lower profile tires tends to harshen the ride. But assume the same type of tire is used, is there much ride compromised using a 225/55x17 tire compared to the 225/60x16 tire?
I know that even larger wheels can fit, but I'm looking to max comfort for wife & MIL...

I just replace my 205/65/15 stock with 215/50/17 and I had the same question like you before I did it. I go from 15" to 17" but I do not lose too much comfortable so I think the ride of your new tires will almost the same.
If I was you, my question will be is it worth spend $$$$ just to go from 16" to 17" since they looks almost the same.
My car, a 99ES, looks good in 17" compare to 15" stock.
If you post your car model, color, the wheel you want, some friendly members here may help. I am a newb too so this is all I can say.
