Default Need a little advice regarding tires...

I have the stock wheels, and I need new tires soon. I need suggestions for the 225/40 and 255/40 - 18 tires.

Here's the deal: my priorities with finding the right wheels are listed from most important to least important:

Road Noise
Tread Life
Comfort
Performance (and Wet Traction)
Price

As you can see, although my car is about performance, I value comfort a little more.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

BTW: I could have placed this thread in the Wheels Forum, but it seems that I'll get a little more feedback in the IS Forum...

FWIW:

My IS350 will be here in a few weeks [finally], and I'm changing the Dunlop's out for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S before delivery. Like you, I'm willing to sacrifice some performance for a quiet ride - and I'm also willing to pay more to get what I'm after. There are other offerings in this category for sure, but I've run Michelin's on all my vehicles from inception and I never have an issue and they perform as advertised.

That's what I'm putting on mine later this year. I had the MPS A/S on
my previous cars and found them to be an good balance of performance and
comfort.

Not a suggestion on brand but I would consider going with 235/40's on the fronts. With the very slightly taller sidewall, you should get a little less noise and a little more comfort. You'll also get a little better performance (braking/handling), and better rim protection.

It doesn't sound like you're looking for a max performance summer tire but I've had great luck with the michelin ps2's. They're much quieter and they tramline a lot less than the stock dunlops I had.

i would say this is when you take the LS out....leave the tires on the IS so you can have your fun and comfort between both cars!!!!

Not that this advice is worth more than you're paying for it, but I have done a little research, and have pre-decided on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, also.

I would look at the 3 most popular (best sellers):
- Dunlop SP Sport Maxx (OEM)
- Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
- Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position (not the OEM)

IMHO, you don't want/need all season tires in SoCal . . .

Each one has a different blend of performance, price, comfort & specs. I'm glad I don't have to make this decision for another 10k miles. Good Luck.

i'm planning to get the ps2s when i upgrade to 19s, but i've heard good things about the goodyear f1's as well. both of those are supposed to be among the quietest tires out there and have good reviews.

Honestly? I think the OEM Dunlops would be exactly what you are looking for...

I'm interested in what people come up with on this thread. Although I won't be needing tires for awhile I find the Dunlop's that came on the car to be overly noisy. Next time I'd like to get something a little quieter.

When you say they are "overly noisy", are you comparing them with similar performance and size tires you've used in the past? I ask because they are actually some of the quietest summer-only rubber I've ever had!

But I am usually riding on the ultra-high performance stuff like toyo T1-R and pirelli zeros...
