Need Help!! What size wheels?
Guys, I can't decide what size rims to get for the 1997 LS400. I don't know whether to go for 19's or 20's. I don't really want 20's because the tires are too thin (30's) and I don't want to avoid potholes all the time. So, are 19's too small? (with 40's) ?
Thanks!
Kenny

It's basically your own taste if you go 20's you can get a 255-35-20 and that is not so bad it's basically up to you just remember the LS is a big car 19's might look small! www.wheelsboutique.com

SappyEF9---In my opinion, I think that you should go no less than 20's on your car. I have a friend that has 21's on his LS400, and that looks bad as hell!!!! And don't worry about the tires being too thin---whatever type of rim you get, 19's or 20's, your gonna have to get low profile tires---so either way you look at it, you will have to watch the potholes. Go ith the 20's, you got a big car, you gotta have the big wheels

WOW!!
Hey AP0178,
Thanks for the reply. In regards to your friend with the 21" Rims, does he have rubbing problems? Do you happen to have a picture of his car? Thanks!

Okay..okay
This is the thing. I have a 1997 Champange LS400 (Coach Edition). But I'm gonna update the front end to the 98+ front end. I would perfer chrome rims. I want something nice, but not too fancy, like the BR5's or the Lexus SportLine EV1's. So yeah..I'm not going to put a body kit on. Given that, I don't know whether to get 19's or 20's. Yeah?

Honestly, this is my opinion. You have a big car, so you need big wheels. Like I said before, 20's has to be the minimum, but it has to be the right type of wheel. I would go for the dish look, instead of the spoky type wheels like the BR-5's. I like the LD1's, but a lot of people have them---me being one of them, but when the wheel spins, you see a nice disk of chrome, and for a big car like yours, that's the way you want to role. Check out www.superbuytires.com and on the left hand drop down box, pick "20 inch wheels." It will give you close to 380 different 20 inch wheels---not all of them will fit your car, but if you can't find something there, good luck.
Hope that helps!!!!!

What do you think of this wheel---there is a champagne colored Mercedes S500 riding around with these in Tampa in chrome, and I think it looks pretty good. Tell me what you think???

Oh yeah...
Hey RetroDriv,
Do you go to UCI? I thought I saw a car exactly like your's in the parking lot. Same kit, rims and model. Back to your rims, so 19's huh? Do you mind sending me some pictures of you car after you install your rims? I'm starting to feel that if I DON'T have a kit, I should get 19's, but if I DO have a kit, I should go for 20's. What do u think?

No man, I go to SDSU and I don't take my Lex there. I drive a Civic during the day since my Lex is usually taken appart since I am installing the stereo.
I will definetely post some pics when I put those rims on.

Sappy - 19's or 20's look fine on a LS w/ or w/o a body kit... What type of "style" do you like? Dish, Mesh, Spoke? There are THOUSANDS of wheels...plus, consider your spending range...how you much you can spend will REALLY determine what you can get....check out

Just to look at the wheels...personally, I think the AutoCouture Supremes look good on the LS...
If you want to do 19", Altstadt has some nice wheels...
Here's a nice body kit for the 95-97 LS400...the wheels are MAE 3-Piece 19" wheels...(nice wheel, but traditionally associated with Mercedes although they make Lexus bolt patterns now)
