Default Chroming Teh Rims

How much am I looking at if I decide to chrome/rechrome my rims? I am not sure where to look for these kind of services.

The rims are 19"

Default Chrome

mine were $150 per rim through the Tirerack, don't know if they'll do your existing rims, but I'm sure a search on the web, or in the back of a car mag will provide some insight.

Thx for your reply. Wow 150 per rim is prety pricey, I hope I can find a better price with a good quality since there is some competition in this industry.

Question How Many Pieces?

Retro - R your wheels multiple piece or single? I tried to get a set of 2 piece Enkei's chromed ( at $100/each ) but the shop said he couldn't guarantee them because in a multiple piece wheel, the chemicals tend to puddle in the parting lines where the pieces are welded & begin to flake of there, especially on a daily driver. he suggested that I not do them because of that but it'd be OK if it was a show car wheel. Just food for thought.

I have 1 piece rims 19x8.5 front, 19x9 back.

I have also heard that you need to do a rechrome every year...is that a bs or for real?

Question Depends

Guess it depends on how good the original job was. I've only had one set of aftermarket-chromed wheels & for the 2+ years that I had them I never noticed the shine diminishing or flaking away. I also asked the guy who chromed my RF amps ( he chromes EVERYTHING! ) & he said that unless they're abused ( by using the wrong mag polish or wheel cleaner ) then they shouldn't need to be touched up for at least 5-6 years. His cleaner recommendations fall along the lines of spraying off the brake dust buildup with a garden hose; cleaning the wheels with water ONLY; & then keeping a coat of wax on them. Periodically use a good chrome cleaner ( he's partial to Meguairs ) then apply some more wax. Zaino's Z-2 seems to work well on my Zenetti's.

Yup ! Mean Gene as always hit it right on the dot ! Depending on the quality of the wheel, the chrome should last you for a few years. If its some generic wheel it might fade but to a famous/popular wheel company they are made to last. Just use zaino Z-2 and you eyes will be like this ====>

Default msray - I asked manaray about LA facilities:

I am looking to rechrome the "wagon wheels" of my SC and was wondering if you can refer me to any facilities in LA.

The only one I know of is in Hawthorne (he sells a LOT of rims on eBay using the name: ngobros2000@aol.com) and he charges $100/wheel.

manaray said:

$100 per wheel seems about right. Just make sure he does a triple dip chrome job, not the "one step" job...

There is a place in North Hollywood also but I can't recall the name (I'm not a big on chroming...)
