Default question on offset for Volk ME on IS350

Ok, let me first start by saying, I'm a newb to the Lexus world. I searched a bit on this, but figured i'd ask here before calling Tire Rack.

I have a SMG IS350 Sport on the way (yay!), and am already looking for wheels. I'm seriously looking at the Volk Progressiv ME (as well as the TE, and GT-M). Anyway, The Volk PDF 2006 catalog shows the fitment for the 350 as 19x8.5 w/ 35 offset (f) and 19x9.5 w/ 35 offset (r). just when I thought it would be easy, when I called to order, they told me Mackin Industries suggested a 45 offset for the rear. ...why is this? anyone? wouldn't the 35 have a slightly bigger dish/lip? or is the 35 gonna be to close to the fender over the 45? I'm planning on running 235/35/19 (f) and 275/30/19 (r). Again, any technical advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, that is weird.

I was planning to go with +35 in the rear as well for the Volks. This also came from the mouth of Mackin Industries who told me to go with +35.

Someone on the forum is running +36 ALL AROUND, and it looks perfect and beautiful.

The Mackin Industires IS350 I believe is using +44 front & +37 rear. Not 100% sure though.

My head has been spinning trying to figure it out. I'm just going to stick with my beliefs and specs.

19x8.5 +43 Front & 19x9.5 +35 Rear.

Good luck!

the +35 will be closer to the fender than the +45. if you are planning on running a 275/30 rear i would suggest the +45 to make sure you dont have to do any fender mods. or if possible i would ask to see if they have a +40 available for the rear.

which wheels showed those offsets? They are telling me just the opposite, ...35 front, 45 rear. Doesn't the mackin car run 20's as well?

How much dip/dish would you lose with going witht he 45 over the 35? 10mm, ...obviously, but is it that noticable of a difference? What about going with a 265/30/19 on the 35 instead of the 275/30/19 on the 45?

Greg

Thanks for the responses

im not sure how much dish you will lose, but i think +35 with a 9.5 will be fine at stock height. if plan on lowering id go with a higher offset. right now i run a 245/35/20 rear on a 20x8.5 with +38 offset. my car is lowered and i think if i went with a lower offset and wider tire i would need to trim the rear fender out a bit.

The wheels I'm getting is LE37's.

Yeah, the Mackin car is running 20's.

Well, once you lower the vehicle, it will give you slight negative camber. That should help clear the fenders a bit.

I guess if I run into issues......It's time to cut cut cut.

sounds good. I called Mackin, and they better explained the offsets. The 35 is a more aggresive, offset. Since this car will be a daily street car, the 45 is better suited for such purpose. At least now I understand, ...and know what i'm getting.

Thank you again for the replys.

Just FYI, Mackin told me it just depends on the type of wheel as well. On the ME wheel, where there is no lip, just a deep dish, the look would be the same. Now on a wheel like the GT-7, yes there would be a difference from the offset.

Hey what's up! You're the owner of a black STi from NASIOC right? Nice ride man! I've found a thread from another forum that might give you some help.

Damn your car looked great. We've never met before. For some reason, I thought you were from Austin. At one time I wanted an STi and then I saw the new IS and felt that it is the car for me. Hopefully by next summer I'll be able to get one. Seeing how you transformed your STi to how it is now, are you going to take a similar route with the IS if and when parts become available?

Danny

edit - Forgot to add this link here. It has a lot of info about wheels and tires that 2nd gen owners are using. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=201509
