Default why does a bigger rim raise my car?

i mean i can understand why it would. but if i keep the same diameter tire, why would it still raise my car if i get 17's or 18's instead of keepin the stock 16's?

If the tire specs are such that the outside diameter is the same as OEM, the car height should still be the same. Where did you read that it would raise the car?

actually, between 16s and 19s, you probably will get that the 19s are a bit higher. most coz' that with 16s the tires are softer and the contact part with the gnd it's usually "flatter" making it a tad lower.

BUT, with that said, it shouldn't be too significant imho

Well, it also depends on which 16 setup: 215/60 or 225/55. The 215 will still be a little taller since the diameter is over 26".

If you are going to do that, then stick with the GS400 rims. I am not familiar with the IS SD rims but the standard IS rims are 17x7 vs the 17x8 of the GS. If you go to 17s, I'd stay with the OEM route too. At least this way, the car looks like it came from Lexus that way.

The other thing to note is that if spec'ed correctly, upsizing rim sizes will not physically raise the car. There is, however, a visual perception that the car is "raised" because there is more metal and less rubber. At least with the OEM 17s, you will not draw as much attention to this aspect since they are OEM.

yup, neo got it all. definitely get the gs400 17s. there is almost no resaon to get the is300 17s. some might say it looks a bit better, but it's narrower, less aggressive offset

It is totally personal preference. It cost me about $500 for springs and install when I lowered mine 1.2".

If you are planning not to lower, stay with OEM wheels. Changing out to aftermarket 17s means you wanted to mod but not go all the way. (This is just me and not intended to offend. )

Visually, I think a lowered car on 16s or 17s is preferable to 18s - 20s without lowering.

Cost me about $600 to Lower 1 inch on stock rims. Running H&R springs with Tokico shocks on my 92 LS. Also running a high profile tire, actually just a little too big (tops rubbingover large bumps with drop) 225/60/16 Turanze LSH. 18's going on soon, just saving for tires now. Here's a look at my first mod....

If you have the correct tire size the car will not be any higher. It will just have that appearance.
