Need advice on switching to slightly larger tire size
Hello,
I have a 2003 LS430 that came with 17" rims. I'm happy with the rim size but I'd like to have a little less space between the tires and wheel well opening. The original tire size was 225/55/17. I'm thinking of switching to 225/60/17. This shouyld be a very minor increase in tire height. I was wondering if anyone on this board knows what effect this might have on handling, odometer accuracy, and ride comfort. Also, would this minor increase in sidewall height cause any rubbing on the wheel wells when I hit bumps or make tight turns. As alway, thanks for your advice!

I can answer some of the questions.
225/55/17: sidewall = 4.9", diameter = 26.7"
225/60/17: sidewall = 5.3", diameter = 27.6"
Ride comfort: more than likely better with more rubber cushion.
Handling: more than likely worse since you have to deal more with rubber flex vs metal
The degree to which the comfort and handling is changed is hard to quantify. It could be a little or a little more depending on your expectations and driving style.
Speedo: About 3% too slow, meaning you will always be traveling faster than the speedo shows
Odo: Will show slightly less miles than actually travelled
You will have about 1/2" less fender to tire space.
You will have about 1/2" more space ground clearance space.
Yes, there is more chance of rubbing but since I don't own an LS, I will leave this to other LS members.
