Default 235/55/16 tire on stock 16" GS rim

I have a set of the stock 16" rims that originally came with my 98 GS400. I usually don't use them as I run staggered 19's (245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear)all year. This year, I am thinking of putting snows on the 16's and running them on the car for a few months as we did have 3 snows last year that left me basically unable to drive the car on the 19's with Pilot Sport rubber. The stock tire for thr 16" rim from Lexus is 225/55/16, but I have a family member who can get me a set of snows that are 235/55/16 for free as he no longer has a use for them. They've only been used for 3 months.

I realize my speedo will be off (1.7%, for ex.- reading 60mph when actually going 61), but I don't have an issue with that. I just want to make sure they won't cause any problems/damage, such as not fitting properly on the rim, rubbing wheel wells. My gs is lowered with Ltuned shocks and Espilir Springs. I have had absolutely no rubbing with the 245 and 275 wide 19's on the car.

Looking for opinions. TIA

(bump)... Not wanting to be pushy, but I'm being pressured to either take the tres from him or he'll put them on ebay as his wife is giving him the "outta the garage now" bit.

Can one of you tire fitment gurus give me a quick opinion, thumbs-up vs thumbs-down on 235/55/16 on the stock gs 16's?

235 just means that its wider (than the 225) and still smaller than your 245 with 19, so YES it will fit with no rubbing.
55 is the height and it is still the same height as your previous set; as a matter of fact, it is lower than the original 60s that used to come with the GS.

EDIT EDIT:
If you had the 225/55/16's on when it's lowered and you have no problem with rubbing, then you'll be fine with the 243/55/16.

Thanks, GS3Tek. I kind of figured as much, but hoped someone would confirm before I drive up to get the tires.

It will fit the car for sure. It is, however, slightly on the high end for the rim (which I think is 16 x 7.5) but it should be within tolerance. You'll find that for some tires, this is on the higher end and others in the middle. You can check the tire manufacturer's website to get the "recommended" rim width and "approved rim width range". This is probably the best way to be sure.
