I found a place that sells both Michelins and Toyos. I am not sure if they are the best prices but I wanted to get a price from one shop to get the relative differences.
I checked the 19s fat setup.
Toyo
213 (x2) + 243 (x2) = 912
Michelin A/S
292 (x2) + 341 (x2) = 1266
Of course, this is before tax, mounting, and balancing. It is about 28% difference in price or about $350 (which is the cost of another tire and change). Is that enough of a difference to make the extra treadlife worth it? I'm not sure. We all know that tires tend to get louder in the latter part of their life. Having longer lasting tires may just prolong having to endure that noise.
I am in the same boat as Henry and will be looking for 285s for my next tire so the Toyos are out for me. In a sense, this is not a dilemma since the Toyos are not even a possibility. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.

Wow, you guys got it good south of the border. I have been shopping for tires while waiting for my rims to arrive from DXC and now my car from lexus. I have been specifically shopping T1-R and Pilot A/S. Prices here in Canada are double your quotes at best. OK there is about 20% exchange but that still leaves a 30% difference.

Chris, 1266 is about 39% more than 912.
Was that price from a vendor that would ship to you or a local shop? If the former, did that include shipping costs?
With tax rate here that Toyo price would be 912+7% = $976. My mount and balanced price is quote 1170 which if the tire price were the same would be $45 a tire before tax which isn't bargain basement mounting but I don't expect to be getting the tire price you're getting where I live and I don't mind paying a bit more to support a local independent dealer (and the owner who I've met lives in my neighborhood!).
Also, given that I figure I'm driving at most probably an average of 100 miles a week those Toyos should last several years.
But I will check the Michelin price. As I said, I know they're excellent tires. Living in FL I don't need an all season tire though although we do get lots of rain. The last T1s Toyos I had were good in the rain.

when i was shopping for tires, 1300 was the best price i could get for the a/s, and the t1r (yup i studied that too) for around 1000 (both shipped). however, i do know people who have run the a/s for 40k miles, whereas for the t1s (too early for t1r), most of them runs for about 20k max.
so unless the price is shed in half, i think it was pretty obvious for me with the a/s. now i am just crossing my fingers that they do last 40k!

Anyway, I was not paying attention to lowest pricing/shipping/... as I only wanted to find a vendor that had both to do a same-vendor comparison.
