Default Help with 19"-20" Wheels and Ride Comfort

I've got a GS430 2002 and thinking of putting 19" or 20" chrome wheels on it. Right now it has 17" OEM chrome wheels and I luv the ride. Anything I should do when increasing the size to keep the lexus smooth ride? What should I aspect? I put some 20" wheels on it and the ride sucked.

THanks
Paul

well with bigger wheels pretty much for sure the ride will suffice a bit. you can put on 19s but with the fat tire setup, that will give you more tire sidewall and it will help. but probably you can't really compare it to stock i guess

the tires are also another important factor to consider when talking about ride quality....some are very rough and noisy and others are on the quiet side

Check out Yokohama's AVS db. they're expensive but the excellent ride quality and quiet ride is worth it.

I have Toyo TR-1 on my 20s, they ride 10 times better than my OEM 16inch goodridge tires..

I suggest that you choose wheels carefully so as not to increase the weight of the wheel and tire very much over stock. And, do some homework to learn which tires will be smoothest and quietest (some good suggestions above). FWIW, I have lightweight 19s with Dunlop SP Sport 01-A in 245/45 and 275/40 and they don't ride as good as the factory 225/55/17 Turanza (which were new, and amazing in terms of smooth, dead-silent ride on the roads around here), but they are not bad at all -- way better than most Ultra High Performance or Max Performance tires (I consider myself very picky about this type of thing). Noise wise, the Dunlops are very quite on smoother road surfaces, but generate a little hiss on coarser-textured road surfaces (no 'roar' at all though). They also transmit a little more thump than the Turanzas when you hit a raised expansion joint or something, but again, not bad at all. In any car other than an LS you'd think you were still in heaven even with the Dunlops, but they do represent a little tradeoff compared to the Turnazas. Also, keep in mind that I went with the .5" taller sidewall than most people would, which should improve the ride quality a little bit. FWIW, the Dunlops handle very nicely.
