Need help with lug stud replacement
My weekend trip to San Francisco was great. Until I left...
I just picked up this SC300 a couple weeks ago. The previous owner had 19" wheels on it, but the tires were getting quite low on tread. He removed them, and put the stock ones back on.
Either he, or the shop, is completely retarded. Whoever swapped wheels managed to leave the hub rings for the aftermarket wheels on the brake rotors (passenger side only). This caused the stock wheels to have about a 0.25" gap between them and the rotor. I'll bet you can guess what happened - the lug studs broke.
Thought I had a flat tire, but in fact, FOUR of the five lug studs on the rear passenger wheel had broken.
Anyhow, long story shortened, I need to replace those lug studs. Has anyone removed the hub assembly on an SC? Or since most Lex's use similar parts, has anyone at this board done this on a Lexus at all? Any special tools needed? Etc etc.
I bought my subscription to AllData tonight, but the instructions are a bit slim. I am not entirely familiar with RWD hubs. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

You could always take it to a tire shop, they wont charge you much. If you buy the stud on your own, they wont hit you with more than 5 or 6 dollars per stud replacement.
About a year ago I snapped off 3 studs on my rear wheel when the lugnuts got overtorqued. I took the car to Mavis Discount Tire and they bought and replaced all three studs for $30.

For future reference, replacement studs were about $2 each. After researching a service manual, if you wish to do this yourself, you simply need to remove the caliper and brake rotor. Carefully and slowly pound out the problem stud(s). They will just pop out the back of the hub assembly. Insert the new stud, and put a lug head or nut on it. Tighten it all the way down to pull the stud through. Reassemble the brakes. Voila.
