Default wheel tire combo

Does anybody know whether or not 255/35/20s will fit on the front of a lowered(1-3/4 to 2 inch drop) 98 gs400...had one of the wheels with the tire on the car today and it all looked too close to have them on there....I have had 245s on there since I added 20s a few years ago and they are hassle free..just wanted to step up a size in the tire...just looking for anybody with a similar combo or know for sure if there will be rubbing problems.....thanks..Paul...

I really think you should stick with a 245/35/20 instead but what offsets are the wheels?

I would just stick with the 245 unless you are willing to do some shaving inside the fender area. There is such a small difference in width between the 245 and 255 that it probably isnt worth it. But stick a 305 in the rear

Although the offset will play a factor, members who installed 255s seem to have had more rubbing issues than the ones with 245s, 245s will also rub, just no as much. Some have even said no rubbing with 245s. I just know that I still intermittently rub with 245s with +43 offset and minor rolling of the fender.

will my 245-40-18s rub with a 1inch drop? I thought the Salinas were same specs, so I figured it was safe, no?

You'll be fine Chuck. The rubbing talked about in this thread has more to do with 20s. The overall diameter is an extra inch so side to side turning can be an issue. Because it is taller, there is also the issue of rubbing the top of the wheel well.

I cannot say that you will NEVER rub with a 1" drop. If you had a full tank of gas, maybe a trunk of heavy supplies or a system, a bunch of heavy people in the car, going fast on a freeway and hitting a huge bump, you may rub a little on the top of the wheel well. I was lowered more than 1" when I had the Salinas and did not rub once. I was never in the extreme-condition example I gave though. With your setup, it will take a lot to rub so you should be fine probably 99.9% of the time.
