Would it be tacky to paint my rims black?
I have 20" LDR's on my CL500....they are chrome obviously. My car is black. I was thinking of painting them black with the lip chrome....but is that tacky to have them painted? I mean I know you can order them in black.....but do alot of people have them painted from chrome do you think?

And is it due to condition of the chrome?
Most people dont, but there are those that have painted black over chrome im sure. I really like that look too, black w/chrome lip, and there are also alot of new finishes that you might consider too, like the black pearl, but i would have a pro do it so it comes out right. Becaus you may end up having to pay them to fix it if it doesnt come out right.

If you are gonna pay a pro to fix the paint job, you may as well save yourself the hassle and try painting them yourself first to see how they come out. Dupli-Color High Temp Engine Paint is what works best i believe, Dupli-color's wheel coating paint works well also. This will cost you $15 dollars and a weekend maybe, so IMHO if you were thinking about having them done professionally, give it a shot yourself first. If it comes out poor, strip off the paint you put on and have them done professionally.

Get a MEAN lowering and go for it. Stock height and black wheels won't cut it for that car. You are on the right track with the professional painting, I also say have the wheel disassembled and the centers painted, cleared, etc.
Good luck!

IMHO most painted wheels look tacky, with possibly a few rare exceptions with certain color combo with the car. Keep it the way it is, black/chrome is a lot better.
