Default NEED some GOOD TIRES

okay, i am in the market for some new tires, and what are the best brands, or styles of tires to get i live in Southern California, so the driving here is not that bad as far as weather goes, but i do want some good traction for rainy days, along with excellent traction on dry days, for handleing so let me know
i was thinking of the Dunlop SP Sport FM901

SIZE 235/45/17 or 235/40/17 which one would be better for 17x8 rims,

but wanted some more options , can you tell me what you have used and which ones you guys like thanks

You may want to get any of these, depends on how much you want to spend
The size you should get is 235/45/17 or You can get a little more sidewall with a 245/45/17

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position
Continental ContiSportContact 2
Yokohama AVS ES100
Pirelli P Zero Nero M +S
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (love the viscious tread pattern on this one)
Go to www.tirerack.com a lot of good info which will help you choose what you want.

I highly recommend Michelin PS2. Bridgestone SO-3 is great but very noisy. Check out a review I did awhile back on the Michelin.

Your short list should include these:

Falken Ziex ZE-512 & The Toyo Proxes 4.

I've had my Bridgestone Turanza LSV tires for about two months, and they are outstanding. Whoever put the previous set of tires chose the cheapest crappiest tires ever, and spun all the time. With my new tires, I haven't spun in rain, nor have I lost traction in other strenuous situations. I'd definitely purchase them again!

Although a pretty decent tire the LS V, there are better choices out there, for far less money.

Default Bridgestone

Bridgestone makes some great choices in a Turanza or Potenza and right now until May 7th they have a rebate promo so it's a good time to buy them.

Wink

GS,

If you want a reasonably long treadlife (say 30,000+ miles)., I lean towards a high performance all season as opposed to a summer tire.

so high preformance, is the way to go for tread life, but will that make it noisier, because its a harder tire, i was looking around tirerack and noticed a

Pirelli PZERO NERO M+S

what do you guys think abou that, kinda pircey but reading the reviews they look and ride excellent

opinions,
what would be the tire company rankings

like
1 mich
2 bfgood
3 yok
4 dunlop
etc.....

Good things have been said about the Pirelli's, but they are fairly pricy! A 'high performance' all season will be comfortable.......an 'ultra high performance all season' such as the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S will be more of a firmer if not 'harsh' ride.

I'd still put the Falkens (Made by the Japanese tire maker Sumitomo) & the Toyo's on your list if I were you, or at lease have a much closer look at them before you buy. Just because Tirerack does not carry them, does not mean they are not a fantastic tire! Just my suggestion is all. Here is some more info on the Toyo:

okay ill start to consider the falk tires, in the mean time,

the rims i have are 17x8
now the recomended tire size is 235/45/17
is it okay if i put 245/45/17?????????????/

wider = better traction

That may be the case on dry roads......not for rainy (especially heavy rain) & winter weather (which is not that big of a concern for you I know). I'd stick with the 235 45 17's.....just my 2 cents. Both sizes you can get in the Falken's.

Wider is not necessarily better. The wider profile you go, the taller (more sidewall flex) you will have associated with a wider ratio tire.

If money is not an issue I highly recommend Pilot Sport A/S or Pilot Sport PS2 (summer only). If you're looking for a good alternative High Performance All Season tire, look into the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S. I've used both Pilot Sport A/S & Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S. Both are great tires.
