Tire size?

What is the largest tire I can put on a 18x8.5 rim.? I just ogt a good deal on a set of Stern ST-7 wheels and they are taht size not staggered. I was thinking of running a 235/40/18 Front and 255/35/

234/40 and 255/40 because the 255/35 will be shorter then your front tire it might look kind of odd.
