Default Tires on the GS300

Just bought my first Lexus, on ebay!! It's a 2001 GS300 with 21K miles. Based on the forum info it appears to have been a great deal. Car drives great. A very impressive vehicle.

I was not aware that the car has a timing belt. I have that in the BMW and would have liked to avoid having another high dollar car with a timing belt. I'm surprise Toyota uses a belt vs. a chain. I would classify it more as luxury than performance. I think we could have withstood the addtional rotational mass in a street car.

I was also not aware it took 91+ octane fuel. That's okay. My other cars do too. Just didn't know. I drove it from West Plam Beach to Atlanta. I got 22.7mpg on the trip. I thought that was low for a six. My Suburban gets 18mpg. I suspect the timing was retarded significantly on the 87 octane to avoid pinging which would kill the mileage. What's everybody actually getting? There's the estimate and then there's reality. I read the Owner's Manual when I got home and it's 91+.

Finally, why I really posted. The car needs some tires. It's a stock vehicle and will stay that way. I bought it as a family car which may surprise many on the list based on the mods I'm seeing. Nevertheless, tires. What do you reccomend? I see both a 55 and 60 series recommended in the owner's manual. It has 60's on it now. I thought I'd move to the 55s. The 60 look thin on the rims. Curious who's running 55's and does the car bumpsteer more than it did?

Thanks for any info.
