Default What exactly causes rubbing on 18x8 wheels??

I've done a good bit of searching, and learned that it is common for 18x8 wheels to rub in the back when the back has some weight on it. Does anyone know what causes this? Does it have to do with the offset of the wheel, or could a different offset help the rubbing? Or is it just the width of the wheel and it being too wide. 18x8 gives me more options on wheels, but I dont want it to rub, and I'll be dropping it big time. Any help?

oh yeah 95 ES

You know even when I was running the 1.2 inch drop it would rub very very little, thats cause I was using a BFgoodrich tire, when I got diffrent tires It went away dont know why, it was the same specs.
anyway, now that it's slammed it was just horrible, rubbing even on turns, so I had to roll the fenders

make sure you have the right offset. I never experience ES client before, but I think it can take at least 8.5 without problem if you have the right offset.

Does anyone know the best offset on 18x8? After some searching I've found 42mm to be the best?

i think anything closest to 50mm would do.

majority of aftermarket wheels are about +38mm and +42mm

I have 18 x 7.5" wheels on my ES now with 225/40/18 tyres on them (wasnt my choice) and lowered 2.5" on the rear. the thing scrubs like anything when the car is loaded up with people, but if its just me and the missus, then its all good. I will be getting the guards rolled just for the peace of mind.

how low do you want to lower your car?

95 ES300 w/ KYB/Eibach Pro-kit installed

Hello all,

i'm interested in these wheels Enkei RP07 18x7 (40mm offest) w/ 225/40/18 tire specs
are there any rubbing concerns with these specs on my ES? will this Enkei fit ok?

found my answer on LOC:

"rims 18 X 7 with a 40 mm offset is the biggest you seem to be able to go with no rubbing front or back without modifying the sheet metal to flare out, which is pretty much impossible in the rear.I can hardly fit a few pieces o paper between my fender and the tires with a 1 inch Eibach drop lots of people have tried many other kinds but they do rub ,some less than others."
