Default Thickest spacer to fit on stock lug bolts safely?

What's the thickest spacer you can run on a 01 LS without compromising the strength of the lug studs and nuts to hold the wheels on the car with normal street driving? Is there a specific minimum number of threads that should be used?

4mm-5mm. The key is to make sure you have at least 4 turns when you put the lug nut or lock back in. Anything over 5mm will require you to replace your existing studs or perhaps you can find a spacer with a adapter.

at least for the 2nd gen GS, you can do about 11 turns on the stock wheels. after 10mm spacers, you still have a few turns, so that should still be "ok" though i call that marginal

with aftermarket wheels then your mileage really varies. and personally i don't suggest anything more than 5mm like what lexaristo said
