IS Rims on a GS
So I have been looking for a set of non-chrome GS 17s, no luck, I see IS 17s a dime a dozen. I know the GSs are 17/8 and the IS are 17/7... what are the implications of putting IS rims on the GS...will they look funny?? Performance?? Thanks

Not sure you like the idea - but last night on the road home I saw a nice 99 or so GS400, cinibar red and it was sporting a set of OE chrome 18x8 Lexus rims... fit was great, offset, etc. When it came to a stop I realized the wheels were the SC430 OE 18's! but in chrome, and had the new center cap (non pie plate, result is a thick five spoke look) and on the GS400 it actually looked nice. If you wanted non chrome SC430's, they are available pretty low cost also.. just an idea that would help you maintain the 8" wide as on the original GS 17x8's.

Interesting... I am looking at some of those rims now... I think it might look good. Does anyone know if they will fit a 2000 GS without ANY problems??? don't want to get stuck with rims that may rub, etc...

Also, there are many GS's that use 8.5 or more up front and 9.5 or more in the rear so the 8 sounds easy. Be sure to maintain the proper OD from the OE wheel/tire combination.

thanks for the input, just a quick question... when you say "OD", what exactly are you refferring?? Thanks!
For example
225 60 15 = 225 55 16 OD = 245 45 17 = 245 40 18 as examples of a plus 1, 2, concept, wheels being 15x7, 16x7, 17x8 and 18x8 as I did on my Mustang over the yrs. OD remained constant at about 25.7".
Of course the comment of the wheel width vs the tire section must be compatible, as the comment just above aludes to. This is also on the Tirerack.com, under specs, each tire should have a range of rims that it is suitable for, you want to be in the middle of this range.
GOod luck.
