19s or 18s??? Pros and cons!!
Im interested in getting a new pair of wheels for my sc400. I was wondering if its better to get 18s or 19s. I think the 19s look much better, but i have a question
Is it possible to keep the stock height of the car with 19s or 18s? (without using lowering springs)?
Also what do you prefer... 19s or 18s on a Sc400
P.S. Do the smaller rims really give you better handling?

19/35's will be the same tire size diameter but the gap will appear much larger because of an optical illusion. If the gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the wheel well is greater than the hieght of the tires sidewall, the car will appear lifted. That' s why springs are a necessity with aftermarket wheels and skinny tires.

Yes. Lowering springs will make the ride stffer in two way. When you brake and accellerate, the car will not dip and lift as much( for a lack of better words) and the same applies to turning. You can handle turns at higher speeds with the body roll. In my GS I can barelyu take an offramp/onramp at 45mph. Once I get the springs installed there will be no problem taking the at freeway speeds.
Beter companies can maintain the stock ride while lowering the car's center of gravity. I asked a question about which springs will give me the lowest drop. when I find the link I'll post it here.
So brands to look for for Lexus are:
- H&R
- Daizen
- Espelir
- TEIN (GS400 only)
- Eibach
- L-Sportline (Eibach)
- HKS
And Vogtland make a "Car Audio Spring" designed for cars with at least 100lbs of car audio equipment int he trunk!!!!
Not Intrax or Sprint.
I'll find that link so you can have photos.......

Thanks... Well I have decided I would really like to have the 19" rims. I did the math and found out that the sc400 will remain at stock height with 19" rims and low profile tires. Like Darius said though its only an optical illusion that makes it look higher. I would like to keep the stock height because of the conditions of the roads in my area. There are a lot of rocks and potholes, I already scrape coming out of my driveway
