Need advice re: rear calipers & pads
Hello Lexfans
I took my car into the local Merchants/Tire Kingdom near my office b/c of squeaky brakes for my 99 GS400 (noise is constant and more pronounced when braking). According to them, my left rear pads are worn out, probably due to a sticking caliper. They recommended replacing the rear pads, rear calipers and (possibly) rear rotors- BOTH sides, even though the right rear (and all fronts) had plenty of life left. They use TWI brand calipers & pads, & Brembo rotors.
Here's the price breakdown (no pun intended)
calipers $163.70/side, labor$82/side
rotors $44.35/side
First, should both sides automatically be replaced?
Second, is TWI a good brand? Should I go with TWI, stock or other aftermarket? BTW, I'm not prepared to spend $1-2K plus for any kick a$$ braking upgrade system, especially for the rears.
I already have a call in to Steve @ Carson Toyota on the subject.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

When it comes to the likes of brakes and suspension of your car you should replace both sides at once, even if 1 side is perfect.
In your case yes the rotors and pads should be changed on both sides to give equal braking power. Would you just go in and have your pads changed on 1 side of your car only. Dont think so!
Though im not sure why your having to change your calipers aswell? If you must change them then can you not get them re-conditioned?
