Who has ever bent their Rims ? (2008 Update on Post #76)
OK ,I'm editing my original post here to open this poll up for all types of rims. So now the question to everyone is, who has bent rims?
I myself am interested specifically in the results of High End rim brands that have a reputation for being strong and well built such as HRE, I-Forged, BBS, Work, etc. but as long as everyone tells what brand of rims they've bent, then we should all be able to benefit from the information gathered from this poll.
Describe the circumstances in which the damage occurred (if you know when/how it happened)?
Also if you haven't bent your rims for "X" number of miles, I'd like to hear that too.
Please list the brand, model & size of the wheel and tire (particularly the profile) since all this factors in to the results.

I have IForgeds with TOYO T1-S 245/35/20 and 274/30/20 had them for about 8 months and 2500 miles no problems. The strrets in New Orleans suck because we are below sea level and the city was built on sinking swampland. Theres always new potholes, crators, and dips. I had a Set of Cast 20" Lownhart LD-1 and bent 3 wheels in the 6 monthes I had them. I also had a set of 21"Giovannas Dramas and bent 1 in 9 months but not on my gs thank God.

Don't own high-end wheels.....want to see results.
You guys who change wheels every year, what do you do with your used wheels? I don't see much traffic for them in the classifieds.
BTW, are SSRs considered "high end"? I'm thinking about the GT3s.....but I read that they can be bent easily.

for the wheels, i think it's really hard to define high end. i would just post what you got, that's easier

Yea-
I bent one of my HRE 543's outer lips (F Right) one night all liquored up diving too quick thru a right turn that had a deep transistion. You know where the street has a deep gutter area for rain run off. I was taking the turn at a high rate of speed and quite frankly, it was a driver error more than a weak rim/lip. I am running S03's 245/35/19 on the fronts.
But, "Bad Bob" our local wheel man, customer service and HRE PR guru got me all dialed in. No problems since. Except for those idiots at Americas Tire. That story has been posted in the Tire/Wheels Tirerack sponsored forum.

About 23K hard miles on my HRE 841Rs, some hard hits, but no bends.
Of course, we use a high grade aluminum on all the wheel components... that's not to say they are totally indestructable, but we seldom see the "R" series wheels in for repair (unless, as the story always goes "somone's wife" has curbed one )
Thanks for the kind words, Doug... NOW the truth comes out about what happened!!

18" Volk LE37K, Staggered 8.5/9.5, running 245/40 -- 275/35, 2+ years and around 25K miles. No problems. And I have slammed into some huge ruts/divots/holes with all the construction crap that's been happening around here.

19-in Racing Hart C5: I bent the ****** out the front right wheel over a huge pothole that was almost invisible in the middle of the night with no street light. Heck I did not even feel the bump coz I was flying over the pothole. All I knew, I lost tire pressure almost immediately and had to come to a complete stop within 50m of the "accident".
I got it fixed for $20, but I just had to be save so I sold them for my new autocoutures....

I bent one of my Racing Hart M5's when I knicked a curb. If I'd had wider tires in the front it wouldn't have been noticable. Thankfully I've got a good shop here. They disassembled the wheel, fixed the bend and polished the small curb rash for $60.

I have 3 piece Enkei Rims that when I went to replace the 1st set of tires all 4 rims had dents on the inner rim lip. They pounded them out and I've had little problems since. I drive the car pretty hard and even minimally rough bumps tend to cause dents, but since it is a lease and they are easily repaired I haven't been too worried as I now check them every few weeks to ensure that I fix and major dings in them. Cost me about $20 a rim to the all the dents removed.
