Default tramlining

Will a staggered set up (1 -2" oversize in the rear) help prevent tramlining? I love my 18" rim and tire set-up but notice it pulls (right or left) based on road variations. I purchased 18 x 8.5" w/ 245/40/18 all around but am thinking of buying 2 new rims at 18x9.5 or 10" for the rear for a visual effect.
If this also helps prevent tramlining also then this makes that purchase a done deal.

fyi:This was never an issue with the puny 15" stocks i had previously.

Just to clarify, what is tramlining? Is that when the wheels follow the grooves in the road and instead of going straight?

The wider the tires the more they track to the contour of the road. The effect will vary by tire style, i.e.- tread pattern, sidewall stiffness and things like tire pressure. Your front tires are what's causing this -- oversize rear tires will not prevent it. But the wider rear tires sure do look nice.

Makes sense. In good part it's the tread that's catching, as it wears down there's less to grab.

Your alignment can make a very big difference, too. And not being aligned can result in significantly faster tire wear, noise and very interesting handling.
