wheel rubbing question please help !!!
hello my name is shawn and i just bought a 99 gs 300 and i want 20's. my question is i want to go with a 20x8.5 with a 35 offset for the front and a 20x10 with a 40 offset in the rear and i want to lower it with a set of eibach pro kit springs they are supposed to go 1 inch all around will i have any problems with rubbing??? or if i put people in the back seat will it rub ???? please help thanks for any help......shawn

OFFSET DEFINED
The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.
Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.
Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.
Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.
If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside.

im not exactly the brightest when it comes to wheels and idk if its just me, but what is the hub mounting surface?? some of the terms that describe offset, need to be describe... sorry to be a pain, but if anyone can put this in plain english, i would appreciate it

There is the flat area on the rotor and in the middle of it is the hub (surrounded by the lugs). Now, on the back of the wheels, there is a corresponding flat area that will mate with the rotor. That flat area is the hub mounting surface that they talk about in the offset description.
I hope this is descriptive enough. Since the hub mounting surface was the only term you called out, this is all I tried to describe. If there are other terms, just post and someone should be able to help.
