Do I need centering rings???
I just got some ASA AR1's for my 98 GS400 and they came with centering rings. The sticker with the wheel said I may need the ring. I called Tire Rack and the guy didn't seem positive about it to me (If it came with the wheel that means you need it). The reason I ask is it seems if the tires are not balanced correctly which may be the problem but, could it be I don't need the ring?

The center ring is so the rims are hubcentric and not lug centric. This makes sure your rims are centered, without it the rim could possibly not be centered. You shaking is not caused by the centering ring.

Wheels that have a generic sized hub center bore (hole where the axle goes in) should use a centering ring to fill the gap between the axle and generic center bore size. My own experience and that of some others is that it's harder to get perfect balance for rims that are not hubcentric, although many have them with centering rings and it's fine.
As far as balancing goes though, get a high speed on car balance (few places do it). It's gonna run you $100 but it's worth it. Also, make sure your pressures are high enough. Generally the larger the rim the higher the pressure needs to be. I keep the tires on my 19's at 39/38 now.
